On 13 April 2008, around 6:30am, a Spinner Dolphin was found beached on Lankayan. The dolphin was injured and had many scratches on its dorsal fin, pectoral flipper, melon (rounded structure on the top of the head) and at the tip of it rostrum (snout). We tried to help and pull it into deeper water but it kept coming back and refused to swim. We used a canvas to move the dolphin inside the tank while we tried asking for help. We called a vet at Sepilok (Dr. Sen) and he asked us to keep the sea water in the dolphin tank deep enough for it to float so as to avoid its body weight from crushing its lungs and internal organs. As the dolphin could not float by itself, we kept holding the dolphin up so that it could breathe. About 4 hours after, the dolphin seemed to be feeling better as it was able to float and move itself. We decided to put it back in the sea. At first it just swam around us in circles and went back to shore. Then we pulled it to deeper water and it kept swimming further heading toward north. We followed her by small boat for 30 minutes until she took off and disappeared into the deep.
